- Class(y) v2.4 now shipping !
- -----------------------------
-
- AppSolutions, Inc. is proud to announce the release of Class(y) 2.4 -
- the best Class(y) yet! It's faster, leaner, yet more powerful than ever.
-
- We've taken the solid architecture of v2.0 and optimized it so that it
- now executes faster, occupies less space, yet still provides additional
- features.
-
- Class(y) 2.4 is 100% compatible with v2.0, so all you need to do is
- relink your application with the new library and you should immediately
- gain speed benefits. No time-consuming conversion is required.
-
- These are just some of the ways in which performance has been improved:
-
- o The performance of message sending has been improved by up to 50%.
- o Class creation speed has been improved by up to 70%.
- o DGROUP usage has been reduced to an absolute minimum.
- o The performance of the `super' message has been improved.
- o Use of object memory and virtual memory has been reduced.
- o Checking of message scope and variable type can be disabled for
- extra performance.
- o EXE size can be up to 6K smaller.
-
- All of these improvements have resulted in a library which is still the
- only one to provide unique advanced features such as metaclasses,
- multiple inheritance, and its superior Object Inspector - while still
- outperforming all its competition.
-
- And we plan to keep it that way. We're already working on version 2.5,
- which will build on the lean foundation in v2.4 to provide more features
- that our customers have requested. What's more, v2.5 will be a free
- upgrade for registered users of v2.4.
-
- Here are some of the new features in v2.4:
-
- o Improvements have been made to the Enhanced Object Inspector,
- allowing objects to "describe themselves" so that you don't have to
- call them up to see what's inside them. It makes inspecting objects
- and arrays of objects much more convenient.
-
- o The results of specified methods can now be viewed in the Object
- Inspector, as though they were instance variables.
-
- o Sample source code for the scalar classes is provided.
-
- o Multiple inheritance is now fully integrated - previous problems
- with scoping in multiply inherited classes have been resolved, and
- you can now multiply inherit from Clipper classes such as TBrowse.
-
- o Type casting: when a floating point number is assigned to an
- instance variable declared "TYPE Integer", it will automatically be
- converted to an integer.
-
- The upgrade to v2.4 is now shipping, and is available for $79.95 plus
- shipping and handling ($12 for continental U.S.) from AppSolutions, Inc.

- We thank you for your continued support. Due to the enthusiasm of our
- customers, the combination of Class(y) and CA-Clipper received the Data
- Based Advisor Magazine Reader's Choice Award for Best Object-Oriented
- Programming Language in 1993 and 1994, and we deeply appreciate this.
-
- Best wishes for 1995 from the team at AppSolutions!
